Lighting
At Count von Krolock's midnight ball, magnificent lights
shine in the castle ballroom: eleven lighting technicians are necessary to get
the right lighting in each scene of Tanz der Vampire, and seven of them
are in action permanently for each show.
The fast scene changes demand a high degree of flexibility.
One convincing change from a brightly-lit ballroom to the snow-covered winter
landscape of Transylvania is made possible by the technicians moving 46 lights.
The ability to make these quick changes is due to mobile, computer-controlled
spotlights: in a fraction of a second they produce up to 1500 different colours
and conjure the different atmospheres. Movable projected images, so-called
"Gobos," allow realistic effect such as driving snow to be created.
Four runners serve the lighting technicians during the
show. In addition, the lighting changes during Tanz der Vampire require
600 conventional spotlights, 800 dimmer switches, seven projectors, 8
"cloud wheels" and over 80 colour changes with 16 colours.
