Stage management
Before the charmingly dopey vampire researcher Professor
Abronsius and his shy assistant Alfred can walk onstage, the stage manager has
to give the green light for the start.
At any one time, two of the four members of he stage
management team for Tanz der Vampire are in place as the show runs. The
work of the stage manager begins early, before the curtain is raised for the
first time. During the preparations, he is at the hub. At a desk beside the
stage, he supervises, with the help of 12 cameras, all the movement on the
stage. He is in radio contact with colleagues from the lighting, sound and
technical departments.
Elementary parts of the stage management's work are the
cues. There are about 330 of these (orders to go into action) during the course
of a single show, and the stage management team must ensure the trouble-free
interaction of musical, light and technical scene changes.
